This kitchen isn't just about looks...the whole project was based on improving functionality and this kitchen delivers. There's plenty of room for 2 cooks to work simultaneously while friends and family gather at the island (without being in the way). Nearly all of the lower cabinets are drawers, providing optimal access and tons of storage. There's also layered lighting, so that this kitchen space can go from brightly lit work area to a dramatic entertainment space.

Another before picture. Compare this shot to the corresponding image of the remodeled space to see the difference. As mentioned elsewhere, this remodel was not done just for looks. There were some seriously tight spots, and less-than-ideal storage issues with this kitchen.

Here's the before shot. We didn't remodel this space just for looks...the space to move around and cook was way too tight, and with the basic 'triangle' taking up almost the whole space, there was no room for another person to be in the kitchen without causing a traffic jam. Notice, for example,...

Large glass lights provide interest over the island. These lights are on a dimmer, and give a nice pleasant glow. There are mini recessed lights in the ceiling above to provide a brighter light on the counter. The combination allows layering of the lighting, and means there's less glare.

Large drawers were placed under the cooktop, providing simple and effective storage. Compared to pull-outs, these drawers are easier access (no doors in the way). The other drawers in this kitchen are varied in size, so there's a space for everything.

Here's the pull-out for cooking oils and other tall items that don't fit in with the smaller spices (those are on the opposite side). Cabinet guides are full extension.

A tasteful bridge-type faucet looks perfect with the apron sink. New window was set with the sill at counter top height. This allows maximum light in, and also lets the counter extend a few extra inches into the jamb area.
