Transitional Zen: A Primary Suite Evolution

Our clients had “refreshed” their 1991 builder-grade primary bathroom in 2010, but it still felt heavy, dark and dated. They were happy with the layout but wanted to create a space that was bright, serene and had focal points of interest. We kept the footprint the same while completely transforming the space into a Zen oasis.

The first design change was to replace the oversized, built-in jacuzzi with a modern, free-standing tub. To keep the space light, we selected a neutral pallet for shower and floor tiles.

The centerpiece of the design is a custom walnut floating vanity. The rich, organic grain of the wood provides warmth against the neutral surroundings, while integrated under-cabinet lighting creates a weightless "glow" that doubles as elegant path lighting for evening use.

The most unique feature of the remodel is the custom quartz bench. We designed the bench with a waterfall edge that provides seating within the frameless glass shower and an outside perch for dressing or grooming. To add more storage, we integrated custom walnut drawers under the bench.

To add timeless warmth and luxury, we layered onyx plumbing fixtures from Graff with hand rubbed antique brass finishes on the Visual Comfort sconces, vanity hardware, and shower door.
