Washington Park Remodel
Sitting on the edge of a cliff, this renovation (completed in 2007) sought to take the lackluster, and several time renovated, mid-century home and give it more punch. We took the master bedroom out of the basement putting it, an office, a guest room and an outdoor pavilion on the roof of the original house. The main living room was kept intact other than redoing the cabinetry: this room with glass walls and high beamed ceilings was the best part of the old design. A new glass-intense, floating-step stair tower becomes the beacon of the entry while flowing the house from one level to the next. The original basement floor master bedroom suite was turned into a rentable apartment. As much of the old house was kept in place, the footprint was not modified. Even the siding on the ground floor was left; we created harmony by selecting a new siding on the new upper level that complements the original stained cedar siding. This saved materials from the landfill and expense from the client's wallet.
