WUI-Compliant Deckorators Composite Deck with Gabled Deck Cover

Our clients' home originally featured a redwood deck that had been in place since the house was built. While they loved spending time outside with the family, the deck was outdated and no longer met their needs. They contacted Decks by Schmillen to design a modern outdoor living space that would be a true extension of their home for both relaxation and entertaining.

By relocating the stairs to one side, we were able to extend the new deck footprint out to the original location of the stairs. This design created 192 SF of outdoor living space, giving the owners a larger, more functional area to enjoy.

To achieve WUI compliance and provide unmatched strength, we used Fortress Evolutions steel deck framing. The galvanized steel with a powder-coated finish ensures maximum durability, corrosion resistance, and a sleek modern look. With a Class A fire rating, this structure gives the owners peace of mind in Colorado's wildfire-prone environment.

After reviewing several options, they chose Deckorators Voyage Sedona composite decking. Installed at a 90-degree angle with single end boards, the material offers both beauty and long-lasting performance. We installed a Fortress Fe26 powder-coated steel deck railing with pressed dome post caps, giving the deck a modern, low-maintenance finish.

To provide shade and protection from the elements, we designed and built a 12' x 13' gabled deck cover. The roof features GAF Timberline shingles to match the home's existing roof, making it appear original to the house. The vaulted ceiling is finished in WoodTone's Canadian Ice Lager tongue-and-groove with recessed lighting and a ceiling fan for year-round comfort. Two Fortress Evolutions steel support posts provide additional strength and create a seamless look.

Our clients are thrilled with their upgraded space and look forward to hosting gatherings, relaxing outdoors, and enjoying their fire-resistant, WUI-compliant deck for years to come!
