Alta Vista Lower Level
These homeowners challenged out design team to create a lower level that reflected the casual elegance they desired while providing the solutions they needed. Allowances must be made for a work station with computer, a workout space that didn't look like a workout space, and a bar ready to entertain.
The existing fireplace was overshadowed by a built-in grill. The grill and expansive hood were removed, revealing another window. This became the desired work space and the fireplace area was cleaned up and turned into a conversation spot. The custom-built vine storage racks have the appearance of furniture but are movable and serve to hide the treadmill. Orange shag carpet was removed and revealed a vintage terrazzo floor featuring a star inlay.
The existing bar was refit with new custom cabinetry and glass shelving, and featured an imported-tile bar front and tin ceilings. A large buffet adjacent to the bar area provides additional storage for their entertaining dishes.
