Mountain Avenue Kitchen

Created for a historic Washington Highlands home, this kitchen and dining room addition was designed and built by Refined Renovations for the home’s previous owners.
When the current homeowners were searching for a Wauwatosa home, they fell in love with a rambling brick Tudor full of charm. Many of the rooms needed work, but the dark wood and marble kitchen was sleek and new while still respecting the home’s traditional features. Six years and three more projects by Refined Renovations later, the family is still happy with this kitchen that stands up to events of all sizes.

Porcelain tile runs throughout the kitchen and dining area, standing up to daily heavy traffic and needing little maintenance. Underneath is a hot water line heating system, keeping these floors warm year-round. A polished Cararra marble island contrasts the honed Absolute Black granite surround. Handmade backsplash tile mimics the floor tile and an accent piece draws attention to the custom hood. The rich Appalachian Cherry cabinetry mimics the existing and original wood on window frames and trim and makes this kitchen feel natural to the home. New windows received lead tape to further blend the new and old. Paneling hides the over-sized fridge that easily keeps pace with teenage appetites and a large Wolf range hold up to any cooking project. The new dining area with brick pizza oven features the same leaded glass, ceramic tile roof, and copper gutters as the rest of the home. The brick wood-burning pizza oven is flanked by gorgeous views of the back yard. A beverage fridge sits under a bar area open to both the dining and kitchen sides. This allows for easy access to libations without getting in the cook’s way.
