Basement Apartment/Accessory Dwelling Unit
The client's dream was to convert the existing walk out basement into a compact "apartment style" living space for in-laws, family members, guests or even just to rent out as a separated apartment space - so the design process began. Having a full kitchen and sharing that space with the living area helped maximize efficient use of floor space. The plan also required a full bath with space for a stack washer and dryer. The use of pocket doors helped minimize wasted space between rooms while still maintaining sense of privacy. The bedroom was designed to accommodate a queen size bed and a small amount of furniture. The closet was customized to allow over head storage for extra linens, pillows and blankets. Every effort was made to give a spacious comfortable feeling within the 475 SF space. Natural maple cabinetry, satin nickel fixtures, light colored hardwood floors with lots of recessed lighting bring a warm cheery feel to the new space.
