Bringing the Outside In

This kitchen was part of a larger remodel and addition. Paul and Cathy's goals included integrating the new family room addition with the kitchen space, ample storage, and better flow. In mood they were looking for a café feel, lightness, and to "bring the outside in."

Now we are in the kitchen. The large window showcases a view of the garden beyond.

And from the new family room you can see the entire kitchen. Beyond the kitchen is a formal dining rooom.

The kitchen is not deep front-to-back — just enough depth to tuck a pair of saddle stools under the island overhang. In the island, left of the saddle stools is pantry storage.

The oven is flanked by 2 tall pantry cabinets. A Dutch door opens to the deck outside.

Remodels come with surprises. After construction had already begun and was nearly ready for cabinet installation, a chase that we thought went from floor to ceiling turned out to be only counter height. We scrambled to take advantage of the extra 10" and added the upper open cabinet at the right.

This bar and coffee station is near the breakfast table. In addition to the beverage fridge, we added some specialized storage.

The drawer has an interior rollout to hold bottles, and drawer is very tall to begin with. We can do things like this with Wellsford Custom Cabinetry.

The outside views are are integral to the natural but crisp feel of the kitchen.

Cathy has an impressive collection of spices — and she uses them! This spice cabinet is conveniently located next to the cooktop.
