Kosher WOW! in Baltimore

M. and L. are newlyweds, and they are also both grandparents. Goals in this project included room for 2 cooks and lots of storage for the kitchen gear of 2 households. We combined the original kitchen and a small laundry/breakfast room.

The kitchen is completely open to the dining room, so visual balance is extremely important. This kitchen draws you in — it's such a pleasant space.

We removed a wall between the original kitchen and original laundry breakfast space to increase work and storage space but did not touch the windows or the exterior side door. This kitchen has excellent light. There is a driveway just outside the door, so bringing in groceries is easy.

The waterfall edge on the dining room side of the island is very dramatic. Fusion WOW quartzite granite is a real showstopper.

A stacking washer and drawer replaced side by side units and a door to the den was closed off, making room for a laundry closet, step-in pantry, and refrigerator.

All 3 of these drawers open diagonally. Neither corner drawers or susans completely utilize all the space in a corner, but these drawers are much easier to access than a susan.

The island is milchik, and the business side has 2 drawer stacks and an 18" dishwasher in addition to the sink. I measured M's frying pans to make sure they would fit in the drawers.

The island is 37" wide + countertop. The storage side of the island has 13" deep cabinets instead of 12" to accommodate the food processors and a few other oversized appliances.
