Cindy's NDG Kitchen

In this typical 50's kitchen, the mandate was to work with the existing hardwood floor, move the fridge so it was not so heavy looking when you entered the kitchen, and keep the sink centered under the window. Adding a dishwasher that did not have to live on top of the counter was a bonus!

On the peninsula, we decided to finish the back and side with false panels, to give the peninsula a more refined look. We also chose a baseboard finish instead of a toekick for this spot.

Adding the peninsula improved the counter space in this kitchen, while still allowiing for guests to hang out in the space. The overhang at the end of the peninsula allows for a 4th barstool when needed.

Divided utensil drawers above pot drawers on the peninsula are practical.

A pull out cabinet beside the sink keeps cleaning products close at hand.

The narrow cabinet beside the stove was designed to open from the side, instead of from the front, for more accessible storage space. Having a cabinet and countertop here also meant no pot handles would stick out into the traffic path from the hallway.

The cabinet beside the fridge was just 9" wide, usually too narrow for a pantry, but we added pull out drawer boxes, all the way to the top of the cabinet, to make the contents more accessible.

Above the stove, we had the contractor build a little niche, similar to a bathroom shampoo niche, a perfect little spot to store oft-used spices.
