The layout for this kitchen was a decent one, so we decided to do a budget-friendly renovation, keeping the major appliances where they were, keeping the floor, and adding a large amount of storage with an L-shaped island incorporated into the column.

This is a typical layout we see in a lot of semi-detached homes. The layout worked well for the couple, except that they needed more storage, so we decided this kitchen was begging for an island/peninsula!

The pantry was narrow in the original kitchen, and we really had no space to widen it (the budget did not include removing any walls to enlarge the kitchen) so we made sure all the shelves were easily accessible.

In addition to the typical tray dividers above the fridge, we decided to play with the space and add a bar area, with some space for wine bottles on their sides.

We used every inch of space in the island, including having cabinets open from the barstool side, to make for easier access
