Dorval Kitchen with portable baking station

A typical bungalow kitchen gets a major facelift, and since there was no room for a typical island, a portable one was designed, that can be moved about when needed, and pulled in close when this avid cook needs to maximize counter space!

This efficient kitchen was designed to include a portable island that the homeowner uses as a devoted baking station (and visitor leaning station!) The wall separating the kitchen from the dining room was taken down to half-height, as the stairs to the basement were right next to the wall.

This previosuly unused corner of the kitchen now houses a full height pantry with pull-out drawers inside, pot drawers, a junk drawer, coffee station, and some glass door uppers.

Beside the tall pantry, we added pot drawers for maximum accessibility, with a dedicated "junk drawer" above.

On the pantry wall, the top drawer over the pot drawers is the classic spot for a junk drawer, and with store-bought dividers added inside, this homeowner assigned homes for everything, right down to the bread bag plastic thingies and the soda pop can pulls!

This shot shows the portable baking station, which can be easily moved about in this compact kitchen, and is used as a serving station, baking station, bar area, and a place for guests to lean when entertaining.

This shot shows the portable baking station with all the tools and measuring devices within easy reach of this avid baker. The doors below were designed to slide on tracks, instead of swinging open, since the space to the stove was already tight when the baking station is pulled close.

Handy pull-out cabinet beside the stove holds spices and oils for easy access, and gives a safe drop zone to the right of the stove for pot handles to turn toward.

Gotta love a Magic Corner pull-out! This little baby makes great use of blind corner cabinets.
