Georgian Manor
The clients wanted a large, light-filled house to accommodate extended family visits and frequent entertaining. They were drawn to “Mount Pleasant,” a Georgian country residence on the Schuylkill River outside of Philadelphia, built by a Scottish sea captain in 1761.
Our strategy was to accommodate the family’s modern day program within a Georgian five-part composition, with Mount Pleasant serving as the inspiration for the central two-story body of the house. The symmetrical end pavilions echo the main block, yet manipulate floor levels.
