Queen Anne Revival

This ca. 1907 Queen Anne house sits on a prominent corner property in the Chevy Chase Village Historic District. When built, it featured a picturesque asymmetrical façade, a generously overhanging red slate roof, and a prominent wraparound porch fronting the two streets. Subsequent owners had "modernized" the house over time, covering the wood siding with aluminum, removing the porch, and wasting much of the rear yard on a driveway and parking area. With the help of an early photograph and historical research, we worked with the new owners to restore the house's original charm.

At the rear, a new two-story wing was added to house a family room and an additional bedroom above. An “infill porch” next to it provides a sunny breakfast area for the kitchen. The driveway was relocated to the side of the house, leading to a new side entrance and detached garage beyond. New fireplace mantels and new openings to the living room were added, further improving the space. A new geothermal heating and cooling system and new insulation throughout the home unobtrusively modernize the restoration and help ensure its future.
