Green AND Smart
This ecologically conscious "green" home outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico was designed by architect Larry Speck, whose resume includes such Texas landmarks as Austin Bergstrom International Airport and the Austin Convention Center. The contractor was Jim Evans Construction, a leading builder of custom homes in the area. They turned to ListenUp for state-of-the-art electronics.
The residence incorporates sustainable building practices such as walls made from rammed earth, an ancient building technique that uses locally available materials, and AAC, a precast building material that's fire-resistant, weather resistant, and energy efficient. A green roof garden reduces the overall heat absorption of the building to improve energy efficiency and reduce cooling and heating costs, and two 7,500-gallon cisterns capture runoff water from the roof to be used for irrigation.
On the electronics side, ListenUp Salesman Shawn Mills created a fully automated system that handles audio/video, lighting, climate control, and even irrigation. All of these Smart Home technologies complement the home's sustainable construction materials to increase efficiencies and save energy - and money. Adjustable panels hide away the flat-panel TV when not in use in the small media room and in-ceiling speakers add to the "stealth" nature of the installation.
