La Cañada Timeless California Ranch

When our clients contacted us in 2011, they had begun developing plans for an addition to their existing home. Said plans called for a new master bedroom wing which measured nearly 800 sq-ft of space, bringing the total inhabitable area of this home to 3,000 sq-ft. Although they wanted to also revamp the original structure, the homeowners insisted on retaining some of the original architectural and design features. We selected finishes and furnishings that could work with the old and the new which resulted in a timeless transitional scheme.

From the street, the house doesn’t appear to have been structurally or aesthetically affected by the remodel as most of the original features were retained. However, all outdoor spaces were either resurfaced or newly landscaped. The house itself was painted a shade of taupe.

The formal living room retained custom built-in cabinets. The floors were stained to seamlessly flow with the light maple bookcases. In addition to the grand piano, we selected a contemporary sofa and two leather armchairs with exposed wood arms. The iron glass table belonged to our clients.

On the other side of the original stone clad fireplace, the den. Featuring the original maple cabinets, this room is used to watch television and play board games. Comfort was key.

The television is concealed within the cabinet. The leather sofa and outdoor-grade fabric upholstered ottoman are perfect for adults and children alike to lounge comfortably.
