Mediterranean Villa on a Hill

JTID was contracted to update a 4,500 sq-ft hillside home which lacked character. The original structure had no specific style to speak of. In addition, the house which is built on an upslope has no yard to speak of. The sole outdoor space is a large terrace in the front which overlooks the canyon.

Our initial objective was to completely reinvent the terrace which needed to function as a yard and an entertainment space. As opposed to aiming stylistically-speaking for Italy or Spain, we opted to draw inspiration from rural houses found on the islands of Greece.

In order to provide continuity with the exterior, the main living spaces were all painted white. Unnecessary decorative ornaments were removed to create a clean relaxed feel. Seen here, the newly installed multi-slide doors which lead out to the fire pit area.

The adjacent dining nook is comfortable yet cozy. Two large picture windows open onto the adjacent hillside. To shield this space from the street beneath, window planters with succulents form a visual barrier without blocking any sunlight.

This home features six bedrooms spread across three floors. This second master bedroom located on the lower level is quite spacious. This level is primarily dedicated to guests. We opted for blackout roller shades. The client preferred preserving the darker wood floors in this section of the house.

In the ensuite bathroom, the floor and shower travertine tile materials were kept. The vanity however was replaced. This new light white oak vanity seamlessly blends with the existing scheme. The white marble countertop is nicely complimented by the right white walls.
