Hillside Traditional

This single family home located in Sherman soaks was remodeled in 2007. The Craftsman architecture was preserved for the most part while the interiors were approached in a transitional way. We were initially asked to design the kitchen, the powder room and two bathrooms. A third bathroom was later remodeled. Our client requested our help a few years thereafter to furnish the entryway, the living room and the dining room.

This traditional home is perched over a quaint residential street. The wood siding, the stucco and the decorative shutters were painted various shades of green which seamlessly compliment the surroundings.

The client’s grand piano and China cabinet were per his request integrated into our design concept. A large tufted ottoman provides additional seating during impromptu recitals.

In addition to the entry console, the client decided to retain and reuse his existing dining table which features a Chinese-style base. To complement the table, we sourced and procured caned faux-bamboo dining chairs and a custom sisal rug.

While the canine of the dining chairs ties in nicely with the wood floors, we selected a white outdoor-grade fabric for the seats upholstery. Our objective was to create a soothing transition with the kitchen’s bright white cabinets.

A built-in display cabinet provides a nice transition between the dining area and the kitchen. While the dining room is intimate, the peninsula serves as a buffet for larger gatherings. French doors lead out to the pool area.

An unusual but sensible decision was made to convert the shower area of the lower floor’s half bath into a laundry room which the house previously lacked. The first half of the original space became the powder room. A pocket door creates a physical and acoustical barrier when needed.

The sizable master bedroom connects to the ensuite bathroom. The homeowner elected to reuse all of his existing furniture.

Our client chose to do away with the bathtub in favor of two individual built-in vanities on opposite walls and of a large shower.. The longest vanity -pictured here- also features a hamper. It was decided for continuity to continue upstairs with the kitchen’s black and white theme.

A recycled multi-colored glass mosaic adorns the backsplash areas. At roughly 4 ft by 3.5’, the shower is quite substantial for a somewhat compact space.
