Lakewood Renovation
This substantially renovated Seattle residence is perched on a hill in Seattle's Washington Park surrounded by trees with 180-degree views of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains. The appearance of this home was transformed dramatically from a stucco exterior with exposed half timbers to facades of richly textured granite. The home now evokes timeless images of historic country manor homes found in Europe. This home received the 2006 Masonry Award for Commendation.
A series of additions including a new circular entry tower and portico provide a new focus for the front of the home balancing the asymmetrical quality of the composition. Slate was selected for the roof for its performance and permanence. Lightly stained Douglas fir windows provide a rich, warm contrast to the stone.
This home has a number of green features including a rain screen to provide moisture and mold protection. Stone is a low-maintenance sustainable material which is able to withstand the elements of the Pacific Northwest for many generations.
