Martis Camp, Truckee, CA - Mountain Solace
This traditional mountain home faces the slopes of Northstar-at-Tahoe from Martis Valley, a stunning sight in any season. Our team created a comfortable home for entertaining, relaxing, and spending time with loved ones. The design team was careful to incorporate the long views into the compositions as if they were paintings showcasing the settings.
The home is laid out with a large great room in the center, a master suite and office on one end and the guest suites and media room opposite to provide privacy and quiet even with a full house. The great room provides a connected space for cooking, dining, and relaxing by the fire, with each area defined by posts and beams. The front patios and fire pits provide bold views of the mountains, while the back patios provide intimate views of a large rock formation and wildlife, and incorporate a secure dog rug for their four-legged family members.
The interior design for this mountain retreat was created through collaboration between the architect, interior designer, and homeowner, and achieved a cohesive, proportional, and well-balanced environment. The finishes focus on comfort and casual living: stained and glazed alder wood mixed with heavy stone and leathered granite slabs reflecting textures from the neighboring landscapes of Martis Valley.
The furnishings were tailored for fit and function. The fabrics chosen are a layered composition of woven textures soft to the touch, striking Native American patterns and bold turquoise and red solids. The wood finishes are distressed and casual, dining chairs are an arrangement of mohair and herringbone chenille material. All light fixtures were custom designed for the spaces, completing the visual compositions with attention to scale and proportion.
All finishes were meticulously integrated into the spaces keeping in mind the initial design requirements by the clients and the structure itself, a collaboration of skills and ideas culminating into this gorgeous mountain home.
