Metabiota
Metabiota is a company that does a great deal of research on infectious disease their corporate office comprises a whole floor in a historic building in downtown San Francisco. When I originally saw the space it was dark, disparaging, and broken up into many cubicles. We wanted to open up the workspace so people could work in groups of different communities. There were scientists, engineers, marketing people, and the accounting office that all had to work together. So I decided to put in light flooring, painted brightly colored walls, contemporary furnishings, made joint lounging areas and also made some private meeting spaces. We also created large open spaces for conferences with glass walls so one could always have the view of the city around and the lights streaming in. All of the working office furniture I purchased at Knoll to give a classic look to the office. All of the auxiliary lounge and reception areas as well as dining I purchased from smaller boutique European companies. Dining was a big factor in the lifestyle of this office, the CEO loved to cook and he would prepare meals for his office where they would sit and discuss future plans across a custom-designed counter height table.
