Old Ranch Road

Old Ranch Road is well known for the Cliff May homes in which he married the old rancho with the 50s modern. This particular home had some good bones although it had been whitewashed in a trendy early 90s look. I did a total remodel of the home, took out ceilings, revealed beams, opened up walls, and installed windows all along the front yard so the view to the beautiful Sycamores and Oak trees would be seen. I also created a skylight along the entire ridge beam of the living room dining area to allow the rooms to be filled with light to watch the branches dance in the day and to see the moon and the stars in the evening. I wanted to give the house the mood and feel that Cliff May would have appreciated and embellish it with some current materials that reflected that time. The hallway was narrow and dark without windows and it seemed like you were walking through a tunnel so I immediately opened the walls with windows and paneled the opposite side of the hallway with back painted glass that was the color of the foliage outside. This created a lot of movement and light in the hallway and became a performance piece in itself. Due to all the new windows and mirrors, I needed to warm the space so I used textural wall coverings and stained all the new wood ceilings with a warm stain and used vivid paint colors on the walls.
