Venice Canal House

A Venice Canal that was originally built in the 1980s and it was done in a New Craftsman style. The rooms were small and cluttered so we did a total remodel and we opened all the spaces and I thought that marrying danish modern and some small scale 50s furniture would be the right scale for the house and make it seem larger. I used cork floors because they can convey the inference of being from the 1930s to contemporary flooring and it helped to create that natural color palette that we were trying to achieve. We have doors that open up as walls to gardens and terraces and an open kitchen that leads to the downstairs dining. I also included new staircases that were influenced by Italian 60s designs and created different moods on different floors of the property. I wanted the house to feel casual, chic and also allow my client's beautiful collections of ceramic and artwork to be shown off. This is a real party house, out to the pool or to the canals right in front. The exterior still has a feel of the original Craftsmen and painted it in a real 60s craftsman..
