Renovation: Double the Space, Double the Fun!

You’ve no doubt heard that once you start remodeling, it’s never-ending. This suburban Minneapolis family of four spent months remodeling their Edina home’s interior. However, the bright, shiny, newly-updated interior made the old, overgrown, shabby, dark exterior all the more obvious.

This project won an award from the MN Nursery and Landscape Association in 2014 for Excellence in Landscape Design. The original outdoor space gave the family only 389 square feet of space to entertain. With a carefully-laid-out design, they now use the entire side yard – a whopping 800 square feet.
Award Winning Patio Design – New England Classic
Because this home sits on a busy street corner, privacy was the number one issue. The designer used traditional landscape design elements - an arbor alongside the driveway and a parade of arborvitae - to create an intimate space with room to breathe.
Grassy Suburban Side Yard – New England Classic
Before overgrown arborvitae separated the side yard from the driveway. Now, a custom-designed arbor with purple Clematis and Chilton stone columns separate the driveway from the patio.
Custom Designed Arbor – New England Classic
The family grills, dines and entertains on their new patio as long as the weather permits. The homeowners heartily approve of the outcome, saying "We love how the space has been opened up. Southview did a beautiful job giving us our yard back."
