To update Architect Fred Hollingsworth’s heritage listed “Moon Residence” for its current owner, while staying true to the home’s original design. Glass, creative use of angles, and a cupola anchored by a brick fireplace characterized the original home. The openness of the floor plan was increased as we eliminated walls to create new, open spaces. French doors replicating the original were added to allow access to a new patio area, bringing the outside in. Architectural bulkheads were added in strategic areas to accommodate lighting. Original wood wall sconces were carefully restored, then placed in prominent locations throughout the main Living areas. A new concrete floor was poured to accommodate radiant heat. The kitchen was redesigned complete with the installation of a large eclipse window above counter top on the exterior wall, creating an indoor/outdoor eating bar. The Master Suite is a complete transformation with spacious closets and a light filled bedroom due to the newly installed French doors. The Master Ensuite rivals any West Coast 5 star hotel with custom lighting, a free-standing bathtub, and spectacular marble clad shower. From the street only a new front door painted in the owner’s favorite colour hints at the changes within. We hope Mr. Hollingsworth would be proud.
