SUMMER ORCHARD GARDEN
Designed by Sarah Hammond and built by the Garden Builders.
Another large house refurbishment project, where the garden needed overhauling and completing to finish the whole project.
The homeowner engaged Sarah Hammond to complete the final touches to the garden and Garden Builders were brought on to implement all aspects of the works.
After an initial clearance of builders waste and materials, the planting beds and the lawn were backfilled and fully prepared ready for completion.
Sawn Sandstone stepping stones were sourced and fitted to enable both adult and children access to the rear garden studio and trampoline area. This area was effectively re-planted with an evergreen climber living screen to hide.
Originally the land was an ancient orchard, so the design reflected this by keeping all the fruit trees and keeping new perimeter beds to minimum impact these were shaped to naturalistic curves , a new high grade of natural lawn was laid and this was planted right underneath the canopies of the fruit trees, the grass immediately under the trees was allowed to grow longer and flower to really replicate the summer orchard feel. The new lawn was a specialist sward that grows effectively in 40% less light than most standard lawns.
