TRANSITIONAL RENOVATION

Transitional design combines the best of two worlds: contemporary and traditional. In this award-winning Lincroft, NJ home's open main-floor plan, the kitchen and family room shown here were transformed from lackluster and inefficient to interesting, inviting and filled with light. Viking and Wolf appliances were geared toward the family's gourmet cook, with plenty of storage added for cookware and counter space for prep.

Transitional design in this open floor plan combines the best of traditional and contemporary design. Painted beige cabinets with chocolate glazing create a soft and peaceful mood. This state-of-the-art kitchen works perfectly for this busy family of five and a gourmet cook.

TRANSITIONAL KITCHEN ISLAND

The focal point of the far wall is made more important with a 24"x24" die cut patterned marble insert surrounded by pencil tile, as well as the detailed hood with fluted columns and corbels. TRANSITIONAL KITCHEN AND DINING

Hardwood floors were added to the kitchen and stained to match the flooring throughout the open floor plan. The ivory wood chocolate-glazed raised panel cabinet doors are topped by 6" crown molding with three layers of millwork, and finished with molding at the bottom to conceal undercabinet...

TRANSITIONAL KITCHEN/FAMILY ROOM

We added a bar between the kitchen and family room, which is perfect for entertaining and additional storage. The herringbone marble backsplash coordinates with the kitchen, as does the quartz countertop. The center glass doors display glassware and add an open feeling.

TRANSITIONAL KITCHEN BAR

Oil rubbed bronze hardware and glass knobs echo the chandelier with lightly dripping crystals. The quartz countertop and marble backsplash reflect light, and the herringbone pattern adds interest.

KITCHEN BAR

The wall-mount television was positioned over the fireplace so it can also be seen from the open kitchen. We remodeled the bookcases and added recessed panel doors for a more elegant look. The leather ottoman matches the leather swivel glider, which has a wood frame and fabric cushions, matching...

FAMILY ROOM

In the mud room, we built a coat rack with cubbies for backpacks, shoes and boots with a wainscoting back, painted in gray for contrast but coordinated with the powder room vanity and floor. The bench offers a perfect place to sit while taking off or putting on shoes.

MUD ROOM-POWDER ROOM

The polished nickel faucet and handles with crystal tops add a spark of elegance and coordinate with the brushed nickel mirror frame. The fabric wallcovering adds interest and depth and is washable.

POWDER ROOM FAUCETS WITH CRYSTALS

This kitchen was lackluster and dull; the standard stove and oven were inferior to the needs of the gourmet cook homeowner.

Cluttered and lacking personality, this area of the kitchen looked choppy and didn't make the best use of the space.

Poor lighting added to the drab look of this family room which is open to the kitchen.

The original mud room was inefficient, dull and messy looking. It lacked both character and that "welcome home" feeling.
