Book ended by midcentury modern houses, the context played a large role in its exterior form, but the home is also a result of the individual site. Situated on a sloping corner lot, the home has two front facades. The north façade presents a humble 2-story contemporary home with an integrated entry porch and the west side reveals a taller façade including a tuck-under garage. This home interacts with the site through its formal arrangement, which steps down the hill, mimicking the grade changes.

The interplay of color, form, and texture became the driving force behind the materiality and layering of the X-Line 012’s interior. The interior is enveloped in rich materiality from the wood and stone floors to the slatted wood stair wall and wood panel ceiling. The oak wood used in many of the home’s key pieces, including the stair treads, dining room table, benches, and woodwork came from deadfall on the owner’s property. A large south-facing 2-story glass wall connects its inhabitants to their private and wooded backyard.
