A Re-Organized Kitchen Floor Plan
This kitchen is a great example of the benefits of designing the dream, then scaling back to fit the budget. At the initial meeting with the client, they shared their desire to expand their kitchen to accommodate an island. Since a kitchen addition is typically a much more expensive proposition than a kitchen project that stays within the existing footprint of the home, cost concerns were discussed from the start. However, the advantage of the design exercise is that it is relatively inexpensive to explore options on paper and, in this case, it produced a great space. To the extent that it was over budget, we had a layout that the clients really liked and would not have been “possible” without the addition. Yet, with some creative modifications, we were able to retain most of the appeal of the design without the need to build an addition.
