The overall goal of this kitchen remodel was twofold. We were to improve the function and flow of the room and lighten up the kitchen both literally and figuratively. The previous room was dark with little natural lighting. The cabinets and countertops were also dark and heavy looking. The Weidmann design team set out to consolidated like-kind equipment to improve the room's overall efficiency. Previously, the refrigerator and freezer were located on opposite ends of the kitchen. Also, the cooking elements (warming drawer, single oven, and range) were spread across the kitchen. In the new kitchen appliances are arranged to create a more efficient flow to the room. A larger window has been positioned above the sink, cabinets have been painted and glazed with a light cream color, and a lighter looking granite surface has been incorporated on island and counter tops. This kitchen has been taken from dark and dim to naturally bright and inviting.
