This charming bungalow underwent a nimble change of form that respected its historic details and preserved the front of the house. The owners wanted a new Master suite and a cluster of flexible spaces for social gatherings. In response, we designed a sequence of spaces that can quickly become public or private at a moments notice. A large kitchen was re-imagined to allow impromptu gatherings during dinner parties with ample room to access the backyard when its a pool party. The covered patio was designed to look like a pool house that mimics the historic bungalow in style and form down to a miniaturized version of the attic window. This outdoor retreat welcomes its guest through four painted columns that face the pool and frames the south end of the backyard. From the rear of the house a new form emerged that honors the historic form and details of the bungalow with a transformed proportion for modern living.
