Modernity Modernized

Built in 1974 as headquarters for an engineering firm and having changed hands several times since, this substantial yet outdated office building needed a facelift (and more) to suit the needs of its new owners. Morningside Architects designed a new exterior skin of stainless steel panels for the walls of the first story and specified a harmonious new color for the second story stucco walls. Most important, the design relocated and redefined the building’s front, moving the main entry to the side of the building to give direct access from parking to lobby through a new glass-roofed aluminum entry canopy and linear landscaped court. New site planning in support of the building renovation included reorganizing and renovating the parking lot, new site lighting, new plantings, and a new aluminum fence design that helps harmonize building, entry canopy, and landscape. The interiors were designed by Sari Karki Rajabi.
