Collective Nest
A family gets ready to transition into a full house again upon the advent of many frequent visits from grandchildren. This bungalow is transformed to accommodate and welcome the arrival of the youngest members to the family. Our design approach carefully adds an addition at the back and a second floor without changing the character of the original house from the street. This once empty nest quickly embraces these new spaces due to the attention to original details of trim, material, and historic character. Preserving the traditional palette with the reuse of original bathroom fixtures, existing cabinets and doors allowed for a seamless stitching between the old and new. This collection of original and new spaces creates a perfect nesting ground for multi-generational gatherings and playful encounters during countless sleepovers and after-school visits.
