This 1970s home was transformed with a luxury kitchen remodel that opened the back of the house into an expansive kitchen and dining area with beautiful water views.
The original layout suffered from the chopped-up room arrangement common in many older traditional homes. The homeowner initially wanted to resolve key design challenges before listing the property, but the renovation quickly became about creating a brighter, more functional, and more emotionally connected home.
Her wish list began with two priorities: a better view of the water and a farmhouse sink. To achieve both, we removed the non-load-bearing wall between the kitchen and breakfast area, as well as the wall between the kitchen and dining room. This open-concept kitchen remodel dramatically improved sightlines, expanded the entertaining space, and allowed the water view to become a defining feature of the home.
By opening the kitchen to the surrounding living and dining areas, the entire back of the house became lighter, more spacious, and more connected. The newly created breakfast nook now feels charming, bright, and intentional, offering a beautiful place to enjoy the waterfront view every day.
The new open-plan white kitchen includes a classic farmhouse sink, improved entertaining flow, and a breakfast niche designed around natural light and water views. We also replaced the original double-hung window on the left exterior wall with a window three times larger, bringing in abundant daylight and giving the kitchen a more uplifting, luxury coastal-inspired feel.
Because the newly opened layout needed to remain airy and unobstructed, the lighting selections were intentionally clean and refined. Modern fixtures with warm vintage brass finishes add subtle sparkle without interrupting the open space, while accent colors from the adjacent living and dining rooms now carry through the kitchen for a cohesive whole-home design.
