DS Old Adds Character

This remodeled and restored farmhouse was a long time coming. Almost 2 years in the making, we took on room after room, put on an addition to add a mud room and increase the kitchen size, create a dining space and convert a garage into a finished basement. The homeowners really wanted to reflect the character of this old home and every detail was considered from cabinet style and materials to push button light switches. There are many antique pieces sprinkled through the house, like the desk being used as the kitchen table or the old metal door concealing a void in the wall that now acts as a liquor cabinet. As we went through the design process we uncovered parts of the house that led to spontaneous design changes , like when we uncovered the brick chimney that was behind a wall in the kitchen and then became the focal point of the kitchen. Sometimes those discoveries were costly, like when we discovered knob and tube in the ceiling and had to remove it, but each discovery led to a new and unique take on the space, leaving us with a charming farmhouse that feels historic and new at the same time, while also inviting this large family to settle in and enjoy all the gifts this home has to offer.
