Grand Entrance
Up in the hills of San Luis Obispo, this Prairie inspired home was in desperate need of a well defined entry to the home. By replacing an unnecessarily large Allan Block wall with large natural boulders, JGS was able to subdue this substantially sized home back into the nature that surrounds it. For areas where more secure retaining was necessary, a veneered wall was installed to match the stone skirting on the home.
Speaking to the prairie style of the home, large slab steps were used to meet the grade of the front door and better direct visitors to the previously ambiguous entry of the home. As the client desired a Koi pond in the project, we chose to place it in an area visible from the exterior entry, his office window, and living room windows. Using warm pigmented stones, we were able to provide the client with a pond that spoke to the regional California landscape and tied into the overall architecture of the home and its entry.
