As part of the large house formally owned by Poet John Hall Wheelock in East Hampton, Long Island, the cottage was moved to its current location in 1977. It was renovated in order to become a year round house for its current owners. An addition was built to allow for one story living and to shape an outdoor terrace and a separate lap pool garden. The new living room overlooking the new lap pool was constructed with a timber frame made of recycled fir. Extensive work was done to retain the character of the old cottage while improving the building envelope in order to achieve an Energy Star or better rating. The cottage still remains a part of the original country estate on 12 acres next to the Village of East Hampton.
