This house was designed for a working couple who had acquired a large wooded hilltop beyond their town’s outer ring of development. In their desire to create a place apart, they decided to characterize their house with a natural stone fireplace, locally grown timbers, and White Pine bead board complete with the large knots typical of the species. Within this rustic environment our clients needed separate professional offices, a family wing with kitchen and bedrooms, and a small parlor for the piano. The components of this house, including a garage and service connector, were designed to shape a cobble stone entry courtyard which, with a two-story playhouse marking one corner, makes an inviting space for guests, cars, and children’s games.
