Harbor Bay Transformation
This late 1980’s Harbor Bay home in Alameda has been completely transformed by removing walls that enclosed a small, cramped kitchen. A large beam was engineered and installed in the attic above the entire length of the room which allowed for a new open plan that included the kitchen, breakfast area and family room. The new “great room” now has beautiful natural light and feels open and airy.
The addition of ample white cabinetry, expansive Quartz countertops with glossy blue tile splashes and rustic engineered wood flooring throughout the home offers a soft, natural, beachy look that is perfect for the location of the home on the Bay.
The family utilizes the abundant storage in both the kitchen and the family room areas. The base cabinetry was designed to help define the breakfast nook while also providing storage. The double-sided storage on the island provides a perfect place for cooking, open to the view of the backyard, and storage on the family room side for the family’s busy household needs. With the amazing amounts of storage, the space is still open and enjoyed by the whole family, even during busy mealtimes.
The living and dining rooms were also refreshed. The opening from the living room fireplace wall to the dining room bar was closed off to create a more functional living room space, and a better, more functional bar area in the dining room. The fireplace was remodeled to create a more modern look, and the addition of a functional new insert allows for warmth in the winter months, as well as offering a more aesthetically pleasing focal point for the family to enjoy.
