The original house was an eclectic mix of American Foursquare combined with the steeply pitched roof form typical of a Cape. However, the Foursquare genes are clearly dominant as seen by the efficient square plan and honest handcrafted woodwork, inside and out.

Early in the project planning stages the Owner requested the addition be compact and project no higher than the original house. To manage the addition’s height, exterior walls are broken down into multiple gabled facades. Façade planes vary in width and step to break-down the building forms.

The interiors have the same honest handcrafted qualities exhibited on the exterior. At the Owner's request, where possible, original wood doors, windows and hardware were salvaged, restored and reinstalled. For new work, simple Craftsman details and materials are employed throughout to convey the enduring period appeal of comfort, coziness, charm, and romance.

The reward of good residential design is realizing the dream of "Home". A home that appeals both in its broad representation yet also uniquely reflects the elusive nature and personality of its Owners.
