Milwaukie Addition

**Out with the lean-to, in with something built to last. ?**

This project started with a tired, moss-covered lean-to attached to the back of a charming two-story home nestled in the trees. The structure was well past its useful life — sagging roof, decayed framing, no real function. The homeowner wanted to reclaim that footprint and turn it into genuine living space.

We tore it down and built it right from the ground up.

The new addition features heated slate tile flooring throughout — a warm, earthy multi-tone that carries beautifully from the new living space into the new bathroom. The bathroom is clean and functional with a compact vanity and matching slate tile. Inside, where a sliding glass door once chopped up the flow, we opened the wall into a wide passthrough with a built-in ledge — creating a seamless connection between the addition and the original home's interior.

The exposed beam ceiling detail in the main living area adds character and warmth, giving the space an organic, Northwest feel that suits the wooded lot perfectly. Large new windows and French doors flood the room with natural light and open to the stone patio and backyard beyond.

On the exterior, the whole house got new lap siding, house wrap, and a fresh coat of paint — transforming the original dark green vertical board exterior into a sharp charcoal gray with white trim. The result is a home that looks completely reborn from the outside in.
