This narrow, flat backyard in Oakdale presented a very different challenge: creating a sophisticated and enjoyable garden within a compact space, with limited vegetation and changing patterns of sun and shade.
Bluestone paving and wood details establish a simple framework for entertaining and outdoor living, while layered planting creates intimate garden spaces and a stronger connection to the house.
Drought-conscious, easy-care planting was selected to respond to the changing light conditions and reduce maintenance demands. The project demonstrates that a small or narrow backyard can still have distinct spaces, strong spatial organization and a meaningful connection between home and garden.
