Located east of Toronto in bucolic Prince Edward County, this custom new-build house is for a couple entering retirement who wanted a modern home to enjoy active country living and pursue their extensive hobbies. Inspiration was drawn from diverse sources including Scandinavian design and local farm building typologies to create a bespoke home that blends minimalist architecture with the clients’ playful and eclectic taste in art and books.

The slope of the rooflines of the volumes is carefully matched to appear continuous from some vantage points. As you move around the house on the exterior, the volumes tip back and forth from reading as one mass to revealing their composition as separate spaces connected by the corten passageways.
