Super cute! Teen Bath

ASID NJ 2017 Design Excellence Awards/ Bronze Award for Residential Large Bathroom. A finished attic room was the perfect spot to build a new bathroom for a teen girl as it was directly above the 2nd floor master bath and laundry room which were being renovated at the same time. The key to this plan was building out the wall in front of the chimney and between the two windows to create space for the vanity's plumbing lines and space to recess a medicine cabinet. Built-in banquette benches provide a spot to perch and storage beneath. A half wall was built to provide privacy for the toilet.

With the space plan solved, it was time to turn to the fun decoration! The client is a talented artist and color enthusiast, so it is always a pleasure to collaborate with her. (This is her 3rd home we have worked on together.) We had blue penny-round tiles leftover from a project in her previous home so that was our starting point. We used all of it to create in the shower a wide band of blue dots combined with a black tile liner in a field of 3x6 white subway tile. A black and white basketweave floor was added to keep the palette neutral. The client painted a multi-color stencil border around the room and on the mirror, and assembled window hangings made from fabric she painted and stitched.
