We have built 4 decks attached to a triangle modernist house (also called a deckhouse) It has a modern style that feature post and beam construction with exposed Douglas Fir beams. The floor beams extrude 6' or 8' to support of a deck. Decking boards are typical 3x6 to span the 8' span.
Adding a porch was the most important feature and was a challenge to keep it in the same style of the house. It didn't needed to be big, just big enough for a few chairs and table.
Fiberon Horizon Ipe decking is used. The porch has a faulted ceiling (just like the entire interior of the house) and trimmed with T&G pine.
For the screening we used what's called superscreen (screeneze) and is one of the toughest screens available on the market.
