A Touch of Warmth

Title A Touch of Warmth

Description
Project Scope & Objectives
This client purchased their home 100% for the small and quiet neighborhood and the home layout, which backs up to a lake. The previous owner made some questionable décor choices when it came to tile and backsplash specifically, and the clients moved in with the intention of changing nearly everything to make it their own. Prior to the kitchen remodel, they chose a beautiful oak floor for most of the house, and the plan was to design a comfortable and functional kitchen that coordinated with it. They had a large, obtrusive soffit that they humorously named “the pizza oven”. It served no purpose, and they wanted to remove it for to have a more contemporary look. They also wanted a more streamlined, functional island.

Challenges & Solutions
Thankfully, there were no crazy challenges as the client was open to my suggestions and the “pizza oven” was easy to remove. There was also an odd knee wall that we took out next to the refrigerator to open the space more. The major challenge was wait time on appliances as we moved from non-pandemic to pandemic.
The Results
The result is a light and open space the clients will enjoy for many years. Some fun notes about the project: we added a light in the pantry that comes on when they open the door, so they are not searching in the dark for the light. We also installed two different backsplashes, by the cooktop and the wine area, to differentiate the two spaces, while still having a cohesive design.
