Project Scope & Objectives
The clients purchased their New Smyrna Beach home a couple years back as a home to eventually transition to full time. They had done some updating; next was the upstairs kitchen and living area and they needed professional help. They really liked white kitchens with warm accents. They requested waterproof flooring, luxury vinyl planks. As for style, they had a conceptual photo of the stair railing and that is what I used as an inspiration for the rest of the kitchen. For appliances they were interested in professional appliances from the GE Café series. They enjoy cooking and they requested a farmhouse/apron front white sink.
Challenges & Solutions
The stair railing was a bit of a challenge as it was a custom design and had to meet code. Working with our carpenter we came up with solutions for the right materials and finish to accomplish exactly what the client was looking for. They even had us replace the stair treads and downstairs column and railing to match the upstairs. It was difficult time finding the perfect color and texture for the luxury vinyl flooring; we finally came across a driftwood color with grays and browns that really picked up on the style and colors the homeowner was looking for.
The Results
The Final Kitchen and Staircase turned out exactly as the clients dreamed. The X shapes on the stair railing are repeated on the sides of the island and the back of the peninsula and the black matte finishes give a nice pop of contrast against the white cabinets and quartz countertop. The warm wood pendants over the island parallel the oak stair railing and treads. The driftwood-look on the floor complements their beach home style and will stand the wear and tear from their two dogs and the inevitable beach sand!
