Classic Taste Meets Classic Design

This traditional home on a large wooded lot was in need of an update to create a more functional and inviting workspace. New, larger corner windows were installed to increase light, and the alcove that the refrigerator was in was reconfigured to create a more open and functional layout. The homeowner frequently entertains and wanted to create separate work zones for cooking, prepping, and gathering in the kitchen and adjoining family room. In keeping with the traditional décor of the home, raised panel inset beaded cabinetry was used with oil rubbed bronze fixtures and hardware.
Highlights of this remodel are:
- White beaded inset cabinets that were used on the perimeter and the main prep island, with contrasting darker stained overlay cabinets used on the vent hood and bar area. This creates a nice flow tying in the darker wood elements from one end of the kitchen into the adjoining family room.
- Moving the range to the back wall which allowed for a large open work surface on the island. Open knee space on the range side allows the homeowner to pull up a stool while working.
- Custom made dark wood countertops on the island and beverage center act as a nice contrast to the granite and help define the work spaces from the main cooking and prep areas.
- A wall that was removed at the base of the stairs, creating a great beverage center for morning coffee and a self-serve area for guests. A prep sink in the island is used to service the beverage center.
- Glass cabinets to open up the area and provide great display space for the homeowner’s special pieces.
- A custom built wood table top and banquet with built in storage that provides a cozy seating area for eating or enjoying the beautiful view of the back yard pool.
- New wood floors installed and stained a darker color throughout the kitchen and family room creating a cohesive space.
To complete the kitchen, custom window treatments and cushions for the banquet were designed in warm earth tones and patterns that tie in with the traditional elements of the space.
