From Casualty comes Contemporary

This contemporary condo needed a new kitchen because of a plumbing leak and subsequent flood.
The homeowners took the opportunity to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create an open plan. They loved the previous kitchen, which we had done for the original owners about 20 years ago. They wanted the same high quality design and cabinetry so they called us.

The main design feature of the old kitchen that we used again in the new was the cabinet and bench seat in front of the windows. To increase functionality of those cabinets a microwave drawer was included. Another element of old they wanted to keep was the elevated oven with an appliance garage above set back on the convenient landing space. Balancing this element on the back wall is the built in refrigerator at the other end near the dining area. The cook top is in the middle under the decorative metal hood with a nice balance of cabinets flanking it.

The large island includes plenty of storage, the cleanup area and cabinets facing the dining room to hold serving pieces. There is also ample room for the stools and guests to hang around during entertaining.
On the far wall we created pantry storage and a bar area. The sliding frosted glass door smoothly moves from one side to the other to expose the desired space.

The result is a new, improved contemporary space the homeowners dreamed of that is as great for entertaining as it is for daily living.
