This traditional Baltimore row home needed a more contemporary kitchen for entertaining. With no opportunity to expand, the only way to increase the size of the kitchen was to raise the floor at the sunken dining area. The extra square footage allowed increased cabinet and counter space.
Highlights are:
- The cabinets appear curved, but are not- they are against the faceted wall with a curved countertop and bulkhead creating the effect.
-Contemporary gray faux wood cabinets contrasted with light quartz countertops.
-Light color Linoleum flooring compliments the adjacent wood floors.
- Positioning the range against the wall allowed for a narrower island which improved the traffic patterns.
-The island provides a great space for eating and serving guests.
-The curved wall of windows and glass door brings light to the space. There was one window added next to the new door.
-Furniture-like dark gray coffee bar compliments the kitchen cabinets.
-Huge electrical panel is covered by the chalkboard.
-Bulkhead above the windows houses the mechanics, but was extended around the space to provide continuity.

Although the cabinet style and finishes are all very contemporary, the warm grays accented with red create a warm and inviting space as well as an interesting juxtaposition to the traditional home in an historic urban neighborhood.
